Desenho da utopia

With a virtuous production, especially between the 1940s and the 1979s, names such as Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues, Lina Bo Bardi, José Zanine Caldas, Oscar Niemeyer and Jorge Zalszupin raised Brazilian modern furniture to the condition of important expression of our cultural activity. The precise compositions by photographer Ruy Teixeira accentuate the aesthetic neatness of this array of pieces, revealing successive layers of interpretation and fruition in Brazilian and international art and for the historical weight of each piece, or through the perspective promoted by the portrayed collections and their contemporary scenarios. In parallel, the essay by historian Jayme Vargas conducts the reader through the pulsating and uncertain trajectory of Brazilian modernism, synthesizing, in an elucidative way, every step of this history so imbued in our imaginary but, often, still little-known
