These charming armchairs made around 1960 were part of the furniture of the Hotel Nacional de Brasília, inaugurated on the first official anniversary of Brasília, on April 21, 1961. With a solid Caviuna structure and a single piece of upholstered seat and back, these beautiful armchairs retain the comfort of an excellent design.
The Hotel Nacional entered the hotel scene to consolidate as a central meeting point for the Brazilian elite. The project is by the architect Nauro Estêves, who worked with Oscar Niemeyer in the construction of Brasília. The decoration project was carried out by the company Decoração Wolko Ltda., from Rio de Janeiro. Several important politicians and business people occupied their spaces for decades, sometimes as residents, until the Hotel fell into decay.
The armchairs were used in the Hotel Nacional rooms and halls until a couple of years ago when the Hotel declared bankruptcy and a group of businessmen bought it in 2018. Its doors have been officially closed since 2020, and all its assets were auctioned – including these pieces.
These pieces are in very good vintage condition. The wood was refinished and received a new upholstery in Linen.
