Pair of Cane Chairs with armrests, designed by John Graz (1891-1980), one of the forerunners of Modernism in Brazil.

The chairs’ structure is composed of solid wood with turned details, with seats and backrests made of hand-plaited cane. The chair has gorgeous rounded finishes and curved shapes. This piece has a complex construction, with slight thickness differences between its parts and angles.

Graz started creating and producing furniture in 1925, with decoration projects, panels, and objects for family or work environments. He introduces the Art Déco style in Brazil based on the principles of the new Bauhaus School, fully adapted to the Brazilian theme. His frescoes and paintings have motifs taken from Brazil's flora, fauna, races, and history; The modernists used to call him "Graz, the Futurist."

In the mid-1990s, Casa Teperman started to re-edit furniture from the beginning of John's career, based on sketches by the artist, which made art deco recover in the country and reintroduced the name of John as one of the most influential figures in this style in Brazil.

The pieces are unrestored. Wood and cane restoration by our Workshop are included. The deadline for carrying out the procedures varies according to each case. Please let us know what you need, and we will find the best way to attend to you.
