The iconic Mole sofa is Sergio Rodrigues' signature piece designed between 1956 and 1957, giving rise to the famous and award-winning Mole armchair. In Portuguese, "Mole" means "Soft." Both sofa and armchair are composed of solid wood frames, adjustable leather support straps, and floppy, oversized luxurious leather cushions.

Sergio Rodrigues (1927-2014) developed the "Mole'' concept at the photographer Otto Stupakoff's request, who wanted a two-seater sofa for his studio. The sofa should have cushions where the person throws the body as if attracted by the piece's comfort.

Although it was not well received initially, Mole would soon become an icon, perhaps the most well-known piece of Brazilian design. Its forms allow the user to shape the body anatomically when sitting.

Robust and extremely comfortable, the Mole sofa, as the armchair, sparked an international design trend that favored comfort and new attention to scale over the rigid and antiseptic concurrent design trends.

Rodrigues adapted the Mole design three times. This model is an adaptation for exportation; It is collapsible, to reduce the cost of packaging and transport in exports.

This piece has a solid wood structure that remains unrestored and new upholstery in soft nubuck leather. Wood restoration is included.
