Composed of interlocking circular forms, the piece reveals Tenreiro’s mastery of balance and proportion. The repetition of curved lines creates a rhythmic vertical movement, at once solid and weightless, as light slips through its open structure. Both rigorous and poetic, the work captures the essence of Tenreiro’s vision—where material precision meets a deeply modern sense of harmony and abstraction.
Joaquim Tenreiro (1906–1992), a master of Brazilian modernism, explored the full technical and aesthetic potential of native woods, combining ergonomics, lightness, and artisanal craftsmanship. Originally produced in limited numbers for a discerning cultural elite, his work is now internationally celebrated as an icon of sophisticated modern tropical design. This chaise longue is a rare and exemplary testament to his visionary approach.Exhibitions
