    OCTOBER 3RD TO NOVEMBER 2ND, 2024
  • Lucas Recchia: Elemental Echoes

Bossa is pleased to announce the opening of Lucas Recchia's first solo exhibition, "Elemental Echoes," from October 3rd to November 2nd, 2024.  Born in 1992 on an island in southern Brazil, Recchia has quickly emerged as a distinctive voice in contemporary design. His work draws upon materials with histories spanning thousands of years—glass, bronze, and natural stones—each belonging to a lineage of techniques that have evolved alongside humanity, shaped by the fundamental forces of nature: metals and minerals transformed by fire, tempered by air, and refined by water.

This exhibition presents Recchia's talent for merging ancient techniques with contemporary aesthetics, creating forms that reveal the unique properties of each material. His approach is both meticulous and innovative, rediscovering and advancing the use of these time-honored materials. Each piece reflects a profound understanding and respect for the materials he employs.

Set within the intimate and carefully curated space of Bossa, this exhibition marks the most extensive presentation of Recchia's work to date.

    LUCAS RECCHIA

Lucas Recchia, born in 1992 on an island in southern Brazil, trained as an architect before launching his career as a designer in 2018. He quickly garnered national attention as the first Brazilian designer to develop innovative glass techniques in furniture design.

Since then, Lucas has focused on incorporating traditional materials, including bronze, aluminum, exotic quartzites, and marble. He is dedicated to exploring sculptural craftsmanship techniques and processes, subverting classical rules to create unique pieces. By collaborating with skilled artisans, he produces high-end collectible designs that reflect his commitment to craftsmanship and artistic expression, earning him a spot on Forbes's 2022 "30 Under 30" list in Architecture & Design.

The Eche collection marks Lucas Recchia’s inaugural series of seating pieces, recently introduced in three distinct forms: armchair, chaise lounge, and sofa. With a sculptural design, the base is crafted from cast bronze, creating the striking illusion of the seat floating above. This collection offers a refined seating experience that is more elegant than casual, making it ideal for retail spaces, lounges, and foyers.

Rather than simply providing comfort suited for a TV room, the Eche collection features a functional and sculptural sofa that serves as an elegant focal point. The firm seat is enhanced by richly textured, heavy mohair, adding a touch of luxury to each piece. The collection proposes the use of two complementary fabrics: mohair for the seat and boucle for the backs. Clients can choose from 20 pre-selected materials or explore fully customizable options through COM (Customer's Own Material).

In this collection, Material Distortion, Recchia combines elements in assemblages to create various pieces. Using just four ring shapes—two rounded and two rectangular—in either bronze or aluminum, different arrangements and growth directions give rise to side tables, coffee tables, vases, chandeliers, trays, mirrors, and consoles, all of which could potentially metamorphose into other typologies. Each piece is unique and made to order.

The Bulle side tables represent Lucas Recchia's first venture into blown glass, blending tradition with contemporary design. He collaborated with an Italian family of artisans who immigrated from Murano to São Paulo in the 1950s, bringing the rich heritage of Murano glassmaking to each piece.

The Bulle side table consists of five blown glass components: a wide, flattened top that serves as a shelf and four distinctive feet, each with a unique shape. These tables can be produced in six colors, offering versatility and customization to suit various styles and interiors

The Pina side tables showcase Lucas Recchia's ongoing exploration of shapes and the interplay of translucence and transparency, this time utilizing resin as the primary material. These pieces reflect his commitment to innovation, with resin enabling a unique play of light and color that enhances the visual impact of each table. The Pina side tables can be crafted in eight colors and are available in opaque, translucent, and polished finishes.

The latest addition to Lucas Recchia's inaugural collection, the Morfa collection, is the Morfa n.10, which serves as both a dining table and an entrance table, making it a versatile statement piece. Solidly cast in bronze, this table departs from the lighter glass elements of previous Morfa designs, emphasizing a sense of heaviness, texture, and weight. Its robust construction not only adds a bold presence to any space but also highlights the exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail that define Lucas Recchia's work. Both the Morfa n.10 and Morfa n.09 are striking sculptural pieces that invite interaction and admiration.

Cast in solid bronze, this series of vessels was launched by Lucas Recchia in 2024. In this new collection, Lucas experiments with the finishing phase of the products, incorporating holes, folds, and other scars into the pieces, as seen in the Marca vase. In the Recordo vase, elements such as the apple—already present in Recchia's body of work—are welded together to create a unique centerpiece featuring 24 eaten apples. Each piece is one-of-a-kind.

In the Caco collection, Lucas Recchia delves into the evocative aesthetics of broken glass, exploring the dual feelings of loss and transformation that shattered objects can evoke. As he notes, "a broken object goes from being to becoming something else," capturing the essence of change and renewal.

"Caco," which means "shard" in Portuguese, embodies this concept as the series features pieces transformed from sand to glass and from broken glass to beautifully crafted tables, showcasing the potential of discarded materials.

In addition to creatively reusing leftover glass that would otherwise be discarded, the Caco side table and other pieces by Recchia are produced using 100% solar energy, emphasizing a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
