Rino Levi

Overview

About

Son of Italian parents and born in São Paulo, Rino Levi (1901-1965) studied architecture in Milan and Rome. He was one of those responsible for transforming the architecture of the city of São Paulo and is one of the exponents of modern architecture in Brazil.

Levi returned to Brazil in 1926. He started an independent career in 1927, building small residences and rental houses for members of the Italian community in São Paulo. Its residential building projects always take into account the construction of urban space, the integration with the landscape, and the division of the plant by function.

His trajectory continues with innovative projects and participation in spaces for discussion about architecture. He participated in the creation of the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM / SP), in 1948, and became the institution's executive director.

Rino Levi leaves a legacy not only for the area of architectural design, with its innovative solutions that integrate art and technique, but also for the way of thinking about architecture in Brazil, in its constant struggle to consolidate this professional field and to create a way own, and Brazilian, to design.
