Circular coffee table designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli in the 1950s, presenting a solid Gonçalo Alves wood base supporting a circular glass top. The base is composed of a sculpted radial structure that tapers toward a central axis, characteristic of Scapinelli's approach to solid wood carving. Measurements are 33 cm in height and 87.3 cm in diameter, with a glass top of 75.8 cm in diameter. The piece has undergone restoration.
Giuseppe Scapinelli, an Italian born designer active in São Paulo, worked extensively with native Brazilian hardwoods, developing a body of furniture that combined European cabinetmaking training with forms drawn from local material availability. His production is documented within the broader context of Brazilian modern furniture making of the 1950s and 1960s, alongside contemporaries who established wood based design practices in the postwar period.
The piece has been restored by our specialized workshop in São Paulo.
