The Mid-Century Modern "Franco" armchair was designed by Sergio Rodrigues (1914-2012) in 1962 and produced in Brazilian Rosewood, with chrome cap details and new upholstery in black leather.
Like many designers of Rodrigues's generation, he dreamed of commercializing well-designed furniture produced in series. Thus, in 1962 "Meia-Pataca" factory-cum-store was launched.
The idea was to expand distribution and reduce production costs.
The industrial thought is visible on the structural solution, applying juxtaposed wooden pieces of a square or rectangular section and straight corners.
The other pieces like "Vronka" and "Tonico" armchair, and the "Vitrine Coffee Table," "Franco" follow the same structural thought.
